Catering for special diets takes extra time so there is a small daily meal prep charge of $3 per day for this service. There is no extra charge for our Luxury guests or for cats.
Barkroyal offers many specialised services. Over the years this has included special programs for overweight guests who may need a little extra help to shed a few kilos. This includes clean bedding, fresh blankets, premium food, drinking water and occasional treats. We really do provide everything for a relaxing and comfortable stay.
If your pet is staying in our Deluxe or Luxury suites, you may bring a special blanket and toy if you wish, but please limit these items. Dogs like to share and we can’t guarantee it will come home looking like it did when it arrived!
As much as you want! Exercise is very important for your pet’s physical and emotional health while away from home. All canine guests have supervised access to outdoor play yards twice a day but you are welcome to book as many extra activities as your pet needs! Cats also have the option for indoor and outdoor playtime to keep them stimulated and happy during their stay.

Our staff have been trained to watch for any behavioural issues to identify problems early. We do not do mass let outs at Barkroyal or mix dogs of different size, breeds and temperament. All our guests are supervised by staff when in the yard and we also have systems in place to ensure the opportunity for trouble is at a minimum and group play sessions run smoothly. These strict protocols have ensured we have kept an exemplary record of safety for our guests.
Our attentive staff are trained to watch for any changes and to be proactive about welfare checks. With such a high return of guests we know all our pets very well and if we spot something we will always call you to share any concerns and discuss the best course of action.
Guest welfare is everything to us so of course if we think your dog or cat needs medical attention, we will see to this immediately. We may be able to take your pet to your existing vet unless an emergency requires a closer available vet or the AES (Animal Emergency Service). If a vet visit is necessary, you will be notified and we will come up with a plan best suited for you and your pet. All costs will be passed directly onto you to be payable on or before departure (refer to Barkroyal Terms & Conditions).
Staying at Barkroyal is exciting and fun! Days are filled with new routines and activities. Being a bit extra tired for the first few days after returning home is natural behaviour. Some pets take a few days of rest to return to their usual home routines. A little like how we feel we need a rest after returning from a holiday!
All the playing and excitement from a good pawliday causes a lot of panting which can de-hydrate your pet. Not to mention the excitement of seeing mum or dad at pick up and heading home. Extra water is a good idea however don’t let your pet gulp too much water as it may cause vomiting. A few ice cubes can help.
At check-in you will be required to sign our boarding kennels Terms & Conditions. They set out our requirements and policies so please read them carefully as your pet will not be permitted to board unless they are acknowledged and signed. They are available for you to read anytime at reception, online on the customer portal and there is a link at the bottom of this website.
